Washington, DC—Inspired by Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and their effort to restore sanity, a group of ordinary Muslims, living in the Washington, DC area are organizing a “Jump Rope with a Muslim” activity during the rally at the Washington, DC National Mall. Our group of moderate, sane, ordinary Muslims wants to show the rest of the country that, honestly – we’re really not that scary.
We will have a five-rope service station where people can jump rope with a real-live Muslim (or skip rope if you’re British), take pictures with us and enjoy the rally. Rally attendees are encouraged to participate to stand up to fear and show support for unrepresented, moderate Muslim-Americans. The group hopes that Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and other featured guests of the “Rally to Restore Sanity” will recognize and join this effort in support of their fellow, sane Americans.
“This is an opportunity for ordinary Muslim-Americans to set the record straight,” said Wajeeha Shuttari, group leader. “The reality is Muslims are integrated and are positive contributors to American society. The fear of Muslim-Americans is not worth compromising our American values – or our sanity.”
