In the past week this girl on facebook has become a social justice person.

Supports Mona Eltahawy, convincing people yoga is the only right form of exercise, writes regular essays about social justice issues, talks against consumerism/corporations, is telling people who aren’t raw vegans ( a diet she just adopted) that they are going to get cancer, etc. etc. etc.

It’s not the facebook activism that’s bothering me, but this sudden interest in issues that doesn’t take much thought. In a way, I think it’s doing more harm than good, since she is behaving like Mona in a way - anyone who doesn’t agree with her is an idiot.

I’m trying SO HARD not to get involved, but she sometimes posts her articles on my wall waiting for me to comment.

One of my Ramadan reflections was that getting into debates on social networking sites does little good, since people generally stick to their own opinions. At the same time, I don’t think it’s good for me to get into online debates, since I’m not much of a debater, and my own knowledge is limited.

BUT IT’S SO HARD NOT TO SAY ANYTHING.
