Unlike most media concerning Muslims, the Ask a Muslim series focuses on a routinely overlooked community of American Muslims: African Americans. Contrary to popular belief, not all Muslims are Arab, from the Middle East, or from Southeast Asia. The African American of the 20th and 21st century is most responsible for establishing Islam in America, however Black authors, scholars, entertainers, and other individuals and groups of note are often ignored when discussions arise about Islam in America.
This 6-part web series offers the viewer unprecedented access to a handful of influential to everyday Black Muslims in the United States. It challenges them to answer questions about Islam from a pool of random questioners with limited (and sometimes tainted) access to information regarding Muslims, especially Black Muslims.
This web series from emerging filmmaker Idris Abdul-Zahir along with Ra’id De Veaux and Qasim Rashad, draws the viewer into questions from the public about the lifestyle, beliefs, traditions, and practices of American Muslims.
